I am Tom Quinonero, a frontend developer, UI engineer, and teacher based in Marseille.

What I do

CSS

I like to think of CSS as a way to define how elements behave, not only how they look. I focus a lot on clean CSS and I know both the clean and dirty tricks.

Design Systems

I create design systems and make sure that the code and the design look and behave the same.
I use Figma and write plugins for it to help developers and designers work together.

JavaScript

I create complex frontend applications that need to manage intricate states using vuejs and vuex. I treat components as small pieces that should work in every context. I use typescript and I like my code tested.

Team-play

I am used to working in both small squads and large teams, and appreciate working with people.
I find healthy discussions inspiring and I like to find the right compromise.

Testing

Effective testing gives you the confidence to do big things. I always unit test my code and all essential app features are tested end-to-end. I write tests and have experience with jest, capybara, rspec, cucumber and cypress.

The Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz is the largest symphony orchestra of the Rhineland-Palatinate state, in Germany.

They needed me on a video project that would show the same musical piece under different angles and they needed a web showcase for that. The goal was to switch between point of views, and I we came up with an elegant solution: hosting was done on youtube, and I'll build an app that would control youtube videos seamlessly.

The biggest challenge was to sync the video precisely enough for the transition to be clean and nice. I've came up with a fading between the videos inspired by my musical background. Think of a cross-fader on a DJ mixer!

The whole thing is powered by Svelte and the thing is hosted on Netlify.

In 2022 this project was nominated for an award of digital communication, in Germany! This is called DPOK and it features industry leading figures of the digital communication.

I hate dancing is a conceptual website featuring a procedurally generated virtual city.

It uses threejs and load random building when approaching for keeping up the performances.

Happy Pousse is a consulting company, specialized in indoor growing. The need was something simple, unique and modern.

I did the design on figma and after review I made it a static website using eleventy.

The main challenge was performance. The client require using a background video so the rest needed to be blazing fast for it to not compromise the loading speed.

All images are processed into smaller versions and only the version that match screen size is loaded.

That gives us a great Page Speed score.

Kotti is an open source component library for vuejs. It comes with everything needed to get starting with vuejs.

I was in charge of the prioritization, was implanting new features and rewrote most of its CSS. I am now a maintainer.
